About Genesis - Genesis Reciprocal Insurance Exchange

1955

Our roots start in the 1950s with our first municipal group insurance program.

1985

An economic crash created a stormy insurance market. Traditional insurance companies did not want to cover the public sector because it was too risky.

1986

In response, we formed a reciprocal to provide property and heavy equipment coverage for municipalities.

2001

We kept growing into the 2000s when another stormy economy resulted in a crisis in the liability insurance market.

2002

We knew what we needed to do: start our own liability reciprocal to provide affordable liability coverage for our subscribers.

2007

We started our risk management symposium, RiskPro, to help subscribers learn relevant risk mitigation, insurance fundamentals, and share best practices.

2008

In 2008, we appointed our first in-house principal attorney in order to reduce legal fees and provide better service.

2009

We formed a dedicated risk management team in house to provide our subscribers with dedicated resources for safeguarding their investments.

2010

To better serve our subscribers, we created both an in-house Claims team and credit program designed to help members reinvest a portion of their premiums into risk mitigation efforts.

2017

We created an in-house Legal team in 2018 to serve more subscribers faster and reduce legal costs.

2019

Our subscribers needed more stability and cheaper auto insurance, so we brought auto coverage in house to do just that.

2021

Genesis started in-house cyber coverage to protect subscribers from digital risks.

2022

We expanded our Claims team to provide you, our subscribers, with access to local adjusters that understand the specific needs of your region.

As we have grown to meet subscriber needs across Canada, we are proud to be administered by RMA Insurance staff to provide a full suite of subscriber-focused services. Claims support, risk management, and legal advising are handled through RMA Insurance in Alberta, with additional partners assisting in other jurisdictions throughout the country.
