Patio Safety
Municipality of Jasper
Outdoor patios are more than just a great place for enjoying warm summer evenings. In beautiful Jasper, Alberta, the municipality wanted to accommodate business owners’ requests to extend their footprint onto public sidewalks during the summer months.
Administration wanted to implement a temporary pilot program to allow businesses to use the sidewalk or parking spaces outside its premises for seating or product display. Because the area extended onto the road, administration worked with the RMA Insurance risk management team who recommended to use temporary concrete barriers to mitigate impacts to patron or pedestrian safety. This risk mitigation enabled the pilot project to go forward.
The team at RMA Insurance is always working with subscribers to assist them in completing their projects while being mindful of potential solutions to mitigate future losses — which is one of Genesis’ Strategic Priorities.
From Collapse to Expansion
Sylvan Lake Arena
The arena in Sylvan Lake, Alberta is about more than just a place to play or a local hockey team — it is a place where its community grows and thrives. But when the town arena was lost due to the extreme conditions of a heavy snow load, it affected not only the town but also all the surrounding communities that relied on that arena for so many sports and activities. This is exactly the type of circumstance that shows why subscribers choose to participate in the Genesis program.
The RMA Claims team that handles and oversees the settlement of claims on behalf of Genesis worked closely with Sylvan Lake to not only replace the lost arena, but also coordinated with the town to replace it with a bigger and better multi-use recreation centre while remaining within the terms of their insurance coverage. The new NexSource Centre opened just three years after the original arena collapse.
A Unique Framework
Sturgeon County
Not all rural municipalities are built the same, as is the case for Sturgeon County — located northwest of Alberta’s capital city. County staff and RMA Insurance’s Risk Advisors put significant work into developing an internal information workflow to track contracts. The result was a successful system for their insurance information on claim reporting and procurement.
With this strong foundation, Sturgeon is building its ERM (Enterprise risk management) program. This can be a complicated task. They are working with our insurance team to identify, analyze, and treat their risks. RMA Insurance and Genesis will be assisting and monitoring the process to create a template for our subscribers. We look to mimic the success and responsiveness throughout and have the adaptability to ensure each organization has its own final framework that represents its own unique footprint.
The Risk Advisor team is always willing to assist subscribers in the development of new ideas.
